Louise Belcher Scouting Report
This is the second in a series of scouting reports on some of my favorite TV characters. Each character is graded on the 20-80 scouting scale (20 being poor, 80 being elite) in five categories specific to the character. Today we look at Louise Belcher, the youngest member of the Belcher family in Bob’s Burgers.

Slapping- 80 | Bicycle Riding- 35 | Trash-Talking- 65 | Scheming- 70 | Impulse Control- 30
Louise Belcher is a fourth grade student at Wagstaff Elementary school and the youngest of the three Belcher children. Despite being less than four feet tall, she is loud and tenacious, and she thrives on trash talk. She excels at tormenting her older siblings, Tina and Gene, and incessantly mocking her parents, Bob and Linda. Belcher possesses an elite slapping ability and employs a sarcastic and anger-filled delivery on her insult-driven one-liners. The scrappy nine-year-old is unafraid to defy any authority figure -- most notably teachers and guidance counselors -- and never backs down from any kind of confrontation.
Belcher displays strong leadership skills, as she prefers to take charge in every situation. Even though her leadership methods mainly revolve around manipulation, intimidation and trickery -- all plus tools -- she is adept at getting those around her to follow her lead. Belcher is mischievous and vengeful with an entrepreneurial spirit, and has proven capable of creating chaos out of nothing if it serves her best interests. This can have disastrous results, however, as she lacks the self-restraint to prevent a prank from going too far. She tends to prioritize her own emotions and impulses over the big picture, and often puts those around her in harm’s way.
Despite the front she puts up, Belcher is very much still a kid. She hides behind anger, sarcasm and, most importantly, her bunny ears, but her enduring love for toys, candy and her family peek through from time to time. The ears operate on both sides of the equation-- they are childish and silly, but mask her vulnerability, nonetheless. Even though her actions, intelligence and demeanor oftentimes point to an advanced persona, she is still immature in many ways and displays characteristics akin to a typical nine-year-old-- the struggle to ride a bicycle, an aversion to vegetables, the belief in Santa Claus.
Belcher has flashed signs of untapped maturity, but these concerns are likely to persist as she continues not to age.
